Ability – Does your horse have any or is it sadly lacking? Each horse has its own unique genetic make-up which determines its ability and preferences. You can assess your horse’s ability and preferences through the use of training runs against a barrier horse running at different courses and on different goings. Occasionally, horses when racing will display different characteristics to those shown in training.
Account – In theory the account is where the money builds up through your successful racing career. In theory…
Admin Charge – The Raceclubs 15 percent. Each time you enter a race 15% of your nomination fee goes to the good people at Raceclubs. They also take 15% of all auction and claims sales and about 100% of your salary (only joking…)
Age Change – A fine wine gets better with age apparently. Likewise a virtual horse can also improve with age. However on the flip side a virtual horse can also get worse with age a bit like err a loaf of bread or a banana I suppose. There are two age changes that can affect ability – from 2yo-3yo & 3yo-4yo. After that although your horse ages it doesn’t alter in ability…most of the time…
Alumites – Alumites are special lightweight shoes you put on a horse to increase its performance – the ‘go faster’ stripes of the virtual racing world. The improvement varies from horse to horse with some gaining more speed than others although no horse can become worse from wearing them.
A Rated – There are 4 ratings of horses - A, B, C & D. A Rated comprise the best horses on the site and are as rare as virtual horse shit.
Auction – Buy and sell horses with an Ebay style auction system – without the buy it now facility and people bidding £1,000,000 as a joke on some old rubbish you’re trying to get rid of. There are usually 2 auctions per month and they are almost always busy. Auctions are a great way of new owners getting into the game as there is a wide range of horses to suit anyone’s needs and the costs very from a minimum reserve of about £7.50/$15 or so.
Auroborealis – Auroborealis is a so called Raceclubs monster. This is because it’s rare to see it finishing out of the money. It also has the distinction of being the most expensive horse in Raceclubs history to date when it sold for £4000 (about $8000) on 25th May 2008 to a mysterious new owner - Nemesis Stud. The identity of the person or people behind this new stable remains a closely guarded secret ranking up there with UFO’s, the secret cabal running the planet and the destination of one sock from each pair after I’ve put them in the wash. Just where do they go?
